Project 1: You’ve Got Mail

My family took a road trip, all of us piled into a beat up navy Toyota Sienna van to drive from the middle of the Midwest to the East Coast stopping along the way in Chicago before driving down towards DC. That trip was marked by stops at Gettysburg, Bull Run, Monticello, and a final stop in DC. I was car sick for most of the trip so when we finally stopped in DC for an extended period of time it felt like heaven. I vividly remember buying postcards from one of the chotchkie kiosks down near the National Mall. It was an agonizing process to pick the perfect postcard that encapsulated our trip. I treasured those postcards, taping them above my bed back home in the Midwest.

Our first print project, “You’ve Got Mail” is a free postcard that draws inspiration from the Air Mail postcards of the “golden era of travel” and adds a personal touch - a small local itinerary for the next time someone visits. It’s printed on 100Ib card stock by The Printer (a spot that looks like it’s been around forever at the base of Adams Morgan). In keeping with our non-commercial theme I dropped these postcards off at different Little Free Libraries around the city hoping that someone would find it and send it off to a friend. If you want one, send me an email at henry@202magazine.com and I’ll see what I can do.
